Specialty Veterinary Pathology, Animal Oncology, Liver flukes, One Health, Community
Science Interest
(Past)
Because my background is a veterinarian, I began my research focused in Animal Pathology. Then I had continued working on Veterinary Oncology during studying MS and expanded to Parasitology-Oncology during PhD. After graduate PhD, I've continued working on animal model of liver fluke infection. The liver fluke infection is the national and Southeast Asia public health problem, therefore, I expand my research covering reservoir host, participatory epidemiology, community engagement and control using One Health approach.
Science Interest
(Current)
I have done continual research on Opisthorchis viverrini and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) with the WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Control of Opisthorchiasis. My works relate to animal reservoirs and pathogenesis of opisthorchiasis and liver fluke related diseases. I am one of key persons in “Lawa Model”.
My major works are categorized into 2 main topics:
1. Pathology of liver fluke and CCA: I have worked on pathological changes of opisthorchiasis and CCA, particularly in animal model, as well as animal reservoir such as dogs and cats.
2. Liver fluke diseases: The studies ranged from laboratory study, epidemiological study to the disease control model. Our team has expanded what we discover applying to local community, for example, Lawa project or Lawa model which is chosen to be a prototype of opisthorchiasis control in Thailand.
Science Interest
(Future)
With the One Health concept, I think it's very useful for effective control of the disease that we can see the lesson learned from "Lawa Model". I keep working on this track together with studying on mechanisms of parasite-host relationship to elucidate more on pathogenesis and apply for the best effective control.
